What's Going On?

"Brother, brother, brother, There's far too many of you dying..." "You see, war is not the answer, For only love can conquer hate."

Partial lyrics of the 1971 hit "What's Going On," by the late Motown superstar Marvin Gaye. The song was inspired by a police brutality incident witnessed by Renaldo "Obie" Benson (base soloist of the Four Tops), co-composed with Al Cleveland (best known for composing the 1967 hit, "I Second That Emotion") and produced by Gaye himself.

Betrayal is defined as, "the action of betraying one's country, a group, or a person; treachery." Synonyms for the word are: disloyalty, treachery, duplicity, deception, double-dealing, breach of trust, stab in the back, double-cross, and sellout.

Look at the images on this blog. Take a close look at these frightened children. Imagine for a second if these were America's children. My daughter traveled abroad last summer and the one thing that captured her attention was seeing children as young as 3 years old, begging and homeless on the streets. These are children orphaned by war. As we sit in our 'Ivory Towers', we forget the fact that karma works collectively as well as individually. As an American, we are the sons and daughters of evil and whether you want to believe it or not, there is a price to pay.

As parents and grandparents, the children of Syria, they belong to us, they are just as much our children as those that live in your own home and we have done and continue to do a major disservice to them. I'm not sure I understand why so many millions remain silent. Where are the 'good Christian folk?' America is certainly a Christian nation (and that's really not a good thing). You should be screaming from the top of your lungs that War is WRONG. Oh, my bad, you waiting on Jesus to return so he can straighten out the mess that we put ourselves in.

Black people can blame white people; white people can continue to despise, stereotype and use African Americans as your scapegoats... we're accustomed to it, no big deal. Of course you do realize, we all must realize the fact that if we do not learn to live together as brothers and sisters, we will perish together as IDIOTS.

Dr. King's prophecy has come to pass. He stated, "Unborn generations will be the recipients of a long and desolate life of bitterness, and our chief legacy to the future will be an endless reign of meaningless chaos. There is still a voice crying into the vista of time saying to every potential Peter put up your sword. History is replete with the bleached bones of nations and communities that failed to follow this command."

If I may dare to alter this apocalyptic statement from the late great King, it's not so much of a command (as I do not support or believe in the Ten Commandments, lifted directly from the Egyptian Book of the Dead) but a universal guideline that clearly illustrates, persistently, the law of "Cause and Effect." This cosmological edict is just as concise as the "Law of Gravity" except it's not as tangible a concept as the latter, but just as real.
